8 claim to be paid interest at the rate of three and a half per centum on the securities in question during the whole period of their sequestration, and the King's Government desires to place on record that it considers this claim to be justified in view of the fact that Mr. Frien is expected to pay interest at five per centum on the slums advanced to his wife during the war, and that the bank has clearly been able to make use of his assets during

that period. kr. Prien is unfortunately unable to produce any evidence as to the cheque for one thousand mark drawn at the beginning or July 1914 in favour of his vife, Kra. Margarethe Frien, and enclosed in a letter never

received by her, but it would appear certain that an exar- ination of the bank's ledgers will disclose whether or not
